H1 to H4

Hello,
I was on a H-4 visa till Nov2005 when my H-1B was approved.
My employer was not able to find me a project and so,I want to get him to cancel my H-1 and revert back to being on H-4.
Can anyone please let me know of the procedure?Does the employer file for the cancellation?How long does it take?and what the process is to revert back to H-4?
I read on one of the threads about the form thats needed to revert to H4, when is that used?

you need to file I-539. Do google I-539 and application form gives you instrcutions.

Does the employer file for the cancellation?

May be or maynot be. Up to employer.
