hello,
i am currently in my opt -applied for H1 by premium- H1 approved for one year only starting on oct 1st'04

I am a healthcare worker and i am told that currently for healthcre pro's-h1 is being issued only for a year, does anybody know about it?

My opt expries on feb'05-how late can i go to india for h1 stamping-should i go before oct 1 or before my opt expires?

do anybody know if medicare & social security benefits are to be deducted during opt period?

No I dont think there is any 1 year restriction. Maybe company wants to apply for a 1 year visa instead of 3 year (norm for all H1)
You dont have to go for H1 stamping unless you are travelling outside US at which time you have to get the H1 stamp in the passport.
Social security/medicare is not compulsory during OPT. Depends on company's policy.
