H1 stamping with passport about to expire

My passport expires in September 2007. Would it be a bad idea to get a H1 stamping in India in April 2007 time frame and then apply for passport renewal in May and travel to the US after I get the renewed passport.

Basically can I travel with the renewed passport with the stamping being in the old one.

Any ideas ...

--------------getting Visa stamp in April and then renewing passport in May.why cant you renew the passport early and then get visa stamp in new passport copy??? one can apply for new passport copy 6 months advance of expiry of the passport, even if the passport is valid more then 6 months you CAN renew your Indian passport.
