H1 Or Ead

I know this has been asked before so please bear with me. My situation :

Current H1 expiring on Oct 31 2004.
6 Year expiring in March 2005.

140/485 ND 09/22/03
140/485 approval - Yet to come No news
EAD - Nov 2003

My questions are

1) If I want to stay on H1 would I have to apply for extension twice. Once for Oct - March 2005 and then the 7th Year.
OR
Can I file for my seventh year extension before Oct 31 2003.

2) Instead can I go onto my EAD

Uptil this I have asked what many have asked. Now comes the mainline. Assuming all costs are borne by me (H1 or GC) what would be the advice of my esteemed seniors.

Thanks in advance.

You still have some time before your H1 expires. So, wait n see. If you do not get your 140 approval by (say) end of Sep'04, you can apply for H1 extension (I guess you have to attach your AOS receipt notice).
If you get your 140 approved, you can safely choose to start working on EAD (or, to be extra-safe, apply for H1).

FWIK, in terms of price, H1 is cheaper than EAD. Also, remember that once you start working on EAD, you would need to keep renewing it almost every 6 to 8 months given the speed (or non-speed? ) of USCIS processing of EAD apps.

In any case, wish you good luck.

Thanks

Thanks HKM,

But I was counting lawyer fees etc as well as an H4 (spouse). Also the extensions would be for a year isn't it like the EAD itself. Would EAD still be costlier (considering we can do that ourselves online).
