I was laid off unfortunately on 1/16, and then came with a soft LUD on 2/3 which I just know today. My lawyer said he did nothing about it. Does my previous employer report to CIS? I'm current struggling with job hunting. Any comments?

Do you have an EAD? If so, you are covered.

If you do not have EAD, you will have to know whether your former employer notified CIS about your layoff. If your former employer had notified CIS, then CIS would cancel your H1. And in such a case, you have to get into a job asap before you expire 180 days of out-of-status.

Thanks. I'm on AOS and have EAD. The thing is how can I ask former employer about that? Because someone said LUD could be system auto update, or something else. if I ask them that could remind employer to notice CIS if they did nothing on my H1. I would transfer H1 when I get offer.

Is your former company a big company that has a formal HR team and etc? If so, you would certainly risk asking for any H1 related info!

If not a big company and you have good rapport with your boss/owner, request them NOT to cancel your H1 (dont use the words "notify CIS" or similar). Your conversation with them in this regard will give enough information to decipher whether they notified CIS.

BTW, dont you need 2 recent pay stubs to xfer your H1? Or is there another way to xfer H1?
