H1 - L1 - H1 is it possible ?

Hi,

I came to US through H1 and it expired on March 2006 then my company applied for new L1A individual visa and it is valid till Feb 2009.
Now i am planing to move to different employer , so can i just change the status from L1 to H1 ?
Or I will come under new H1 quota categary ?

I came to US on May 2004 but my H1 petition valid from Sep 2003 to March 2006

Thanks for replying , I need to clarify some thing more related to this case.
Because some of them are saying that it is not possible because once I got L1 visa stamped the other H1 visa get automatically cancelled and i have to go for fresh H1
please clarify

H1 status and H1 stamp are two different matter.
You can change your status to H1 in the US, but next time you enter the US, you need new H1 stamp, if your H1 stamp has been already explicitly cancelled by US consulate.

Thanks for your promt reply.
So I have to ask my new employer to file fresh I129 form for me and I539 for my dependants ?

Or anyother form that my employer needs to submit to change my current status from L1 to H1
