Sure..my wife is a recent example in that scenario
My wife (H4) came back to USA, with a valid stamping through my old employer till oct 2004, with the new H4 approval notice (I-797) thouugh my new employer valid till july 2004
At POE however, the date on I-94 was put as the visa date(oct 2004) rather than the approval date( july 2004) which should be fine I guess (since the date is more than the approval date..)
If your passport visa date is < new approval date, make sure your date on I-94 is equal to your new approval date, at POE by talking to the officer if he gives the earlier date.
