H1 Extension after first approval

Hi all,

I have my H1 approved with dates 1-oct-2005 till 17-may-2008. I want to know the procedure to apply for H1 extension in 2008 and if there are any conditions ? In short do i have to come back to India in May 2008 and wait till Oct 2008 for the extension ?

you do not need to come back to your country for extension. You can apply extension in the US prior to 6 months to expiration. Only case that you need to come back to your country is that your H1 is approved and you travel abroad after 10/1/2008(expiration of 1st H1). You need to get H1 stamp in your home country to reenter the US.
