Hi All,

I am completing my 6 yrs on H1 and already got 1 yr extension until October, 2007. I am planning to ask my parents to get the tourist visa even though they are not planning to travel soon. I am taking this step since visa process is taking lot of time and that's why if they have visa stamp in their passport, they can travel at any time they want.

But my worry is that they may not get the 10 yr visa because of my H1 expiring in October 2007. Anyone been into this situation?

Thanks.

Your Parents visa depends on their ability to answer question and show strong ties to their home country. They should get their visa if they can cross the 214-B Question from the I/O .

Your visa expiration date does have an effect on your parents visa validity date , but they can also show other ties to the US , like visiting relatives, taking a cruise, or infact you could become a LPR .

Did you manage to get a date for their interview ?

Giving my personal experience.
My Parents visited me in 2000. They had a 6 month visa.
Later they visite dme again in 2004. The second time the consulate in mumbai stamped them a 10yr visa.

That has been the experience of everybody I know. They usually wont give a 10yr visa for first time visitors to the US. Also if your parents have travelled to other countries in Europe then it could also help.
