H1 expiring Sonn, Please Help!!!

My H1-B is expiring in first week of Feb,2009 and my employer (after long delay) filed for the extension on 01/21 ( I haven’t received my receipt number yet) and he told me that I can keep on working even though my H1/I-94 will expire in first week of Feb.
Is it right???

As long as you remain in the U.S. and do not leave, you can remain and work for your US Employer for up to 240 days from the date of your H-1B expiration whilst your renewal application is pending.

Thanks for reply.
As my employer said he has sent the application but I still didn't get the receipt number from USCIS, so if my application reaches before my H1 expires but with no receipt number, would i go Out of Status, or just the proof of FedEx delivery is sufficient to remain in status.
Please confirm, i am very much tensed.

Yes. Fedex delivery is enough for you to remain in status. to get the acknowledgement it takes more than 15 days.
