H1 expiring in a week and no extension receipt till date

My H1B 7th yr expires next week and H1 8th Year extension was
recently applied by the Company. As of today I do not have a receipt or case number for the new H1 extension application.
Can I continue my work after H1 expiry date, or I must have a receipt or
case number for the new H1 extension application and a valid LCA?
I need your expert advice regarding this matter, please reply.
 
How sure your H1 petition is filed with INS, DO YOU HAVE fEDeX RECEIPT.

I don't have the Fedex receipt.
My employer told me this.
It may be the case that he is not telling the truth.
Is he obliged to file an extension or its upto him?
