H1 experience at Mumbai Consulate

Guys,

Just wanted to let you all know that I re-entered US on 2nd Nov. While I was gone on a vacation to India, I applied for my H1-B. I have been on H1 for 3 years, but my passport was never stamped. I was concerned that there might be some issues for getting the Visa stamp. I had applied for my Advance Parole and didn't leave US untill I got it.

However, the consular (real nice guy) asked me just one question related to H1, we spend couple of minutes talking about my vacation and how his day was going. Next day morning I got my passport from Blue Dart (Mumbai consulate)

My appointment was scheduled for 10:30 in the morning, but my number wasn't called untill 12:30. That was very very disappointing.

I re-entered, the immigration officer (real nice guy too) saw my visa, and stamped my I-94. The time between I de-planed and was out of the airport was 15 minutes (including immigration and customs)

Now as far as I understand, I am on H1-B status, and I don't require an EAD.

Advance parole

Hi,

Nice to hear that you have got the Visa.

I recently changed status from F-1 to H1b and did not get a H1 stamped in my passport. What exactly is an advance parole and can I apply for one now?

Thanks.

mumbai consulate

hi
I wanted to what kind of documents were u asked for at mumbai consulate.. i m going to india on 19th nov and i will be going for first time h1b stamping .. (f1 to h1)...

thanks

Hi onlinefan,
Advance Parole (AP) is a document provided by USCIS to allow re-entry into USA withouth any VISA. I took it with me as a backup, just incase my visa was denied, then I can stil come back.

However, not everyone is qualified to get an AP. AP is generally issused to individuals who have their Green Card - I-485 Petition pending. If you have a GC pending for you, then you can apply for AP.

My employer filled my GC, so I was eligible to get an AP.

I was also here on F1 then switched to H1

Hi 4evernp,
In addition to the forms required by the embassy - visa application form, and couple of other ones (check out www.visa-services.com), I took the following forms:
- I got my original Degree from my School (I graduated from an University in USA)
- My official transcripts from the school
- My last 5 months pay stubs
- Employment letter

scheduling interviews?

Hi,
I'd apreciate your help on some questions about the procedure for getting appointment for interview at mumbai. I am on H1B status, but my passport has expired F1 visa. I am going to India on Dec 12 and returning to US on Jan 6.

I am not clear about the procedure for stamping.

Can I schedule interviews from US by calling them? Or do I need to do that from India once I go there. I want to get an interview date at early to Dec 12 as possible. I hope I am not already late. Since I dont stay in mumbai, I wouldnt want to keep travelling from my hometown to mumbai for interviews etc.

Please advise.

Thanks,
slice

hi
could u let me know what was the one question that they had asked u at the mumbai consulate.

thanks

You can schedule an interview at mumbai consulate at www.visa-services.com. Go to http://www.visa-services.com, select H1/L1 Visa section and follow the prompts. When you schedule an appointment, you will get an confirmation number. You will have to mail your complete application package with a printout of the page with that confirmation number plus two demand drafts in Rupees. You do not have to mail your passport, but copies of your passport. I mailed my application package to my parents in Bombay, then they included the demand drafts in it, and send it to the consulate.
Just read all the information on the website.
Alternatively, you can go there and schedule an appointment, but they only schedule appointments after 10 days, so you are better off doing it from here before you go.

The consular asked me if I have been working with the same company since I graduated from the school.
