H1 B transfer query

Hi
I am in a process of transferring my H1 from company A to company B. Meanwhile company is being sold / merges with company C. However the actual closing will happen after I join the company B but before I complete my H1B transfer to company B.

What are my options? Will I be out of status when Company C takes over all employees of company B?
 
When I resigned from Company A, they are asking me to return my original I-797A (Notice of action). I have not yet completed H1B transfer though new company has applied for transfer. I also have receipt numbers with me.
What are my options?
Do I need to return my I-797A?
If I return it, will it have any implications?
