H1-B to F1 visa

Need help on following situation:-
My H1-B visa expires on Oct 2006 and my employer has not yet started processing GC.
After completing 6 yrs on H-1B, can I be in US on F-1 visa and study in US during my 7th year? As per my understanding, after 6 yrs on H-1B is completed, one should be outside the country for at least a year.
Suppose I go on my 7th year on F-1 visa , can I continue working on 8th year with a H-1B visa?
Should I be physically outside US for one year between 2 H-1B visas?

As per my understanding, after 6 yrs on H-1B is completed, one should be outside the country for at least a year.

There is no such rule. You just can not be H1 beyond 6 years.
