Hi all,

I am in OPT and got my H1-B approval notice (I-797) few days ago. I had to leave to India since my OPT ends on Jul 13th and my H1-B starts on Oct 1st. In my I-797 it says the consulate that has been notified is New Delhi but the state in India I am coming from is Tamil Nadu, so technically I should go to Chennai. Am I right? So now what am I supposed to do? Also the dates are not available in Chennai till November 15th on contrary I have dates in New Delhi for September itself. This will make it easier for me to get back to work in US right on time unless I don't have any problem in getting visa stamped from New Delhi Embassy. Could anybody please advice me in this regard? Since this first time for me with work permit, I don't have any idea on it.

Thanks,
VJ.

Hi,

So what have you done?. I'm kind of in the same situation.

My OPT expires on June 30,2006 ( on Aug 29,2006 taking into account the 60-day grace period). I consultancy company has applied for my H1-B ( a week back, I still don't have the receipt # too).

I'm planing on blocking a date in India ( I'm from hyderabad orginally). So i should technically be going to chennai I guess. But chennai has no opening till Dec 15,2006. There are opening in Oct in New Delhi.

CAN I GO TO NEW DELHI for stamping?. What happened to your case. Any update?.

Thanks

Consulate choice

Hi there,

You should not have any issue in proceeding to the US Consulate in Delhi irrespective of the state of your residence in India. That is since you are applying for visa stamping in India coming from the US and you will be going back to work within the US.

Your status may change from F1 to H1 or
change one employer to the other
change of address of the same employer etc.

All the above conditions mean nothing to the VO at any of the US Consulates in India. Once again all that matters is that you are coming from the US to get your visa stamped. If other issues are encountered that is a different matter

Hope this helps. Got further question post them on the forum and we'll address them.

Question on DS-156

My case is also similar. I have already got an interview date. So that is not a problem.

My Future Employer "B" will not be paying for my "India to US" trip expenses.
My Question is-

In form DS-156, there is a Question (No.28) Who is going to pay for your trip?
If the answer is "MYSELF", would it cause any problems like delay/refusal etc? What kind of documents would be required to support this answer to have successful H1visa stamping?
Appreciate your advice.

Dear Khadad

If you ar going to pay for the trip you wirte myself or self, unless the company has already paid for your trip. The company will pay for the trip is a future issue.

In either case issuing of the visa is not dependent on this question and if at all it is the last and least of issues

If the company has already paid for your trip then take the original ticket or a print out of e-ticket if it is booked online and a photocopy of the ticket. Submit the photocopy while showing the original.

Still in doubt, drop a line in the forum
