H1 B holder plans to enter USA on visitor visa

Hi,

I am an H1-B visa holder in USA. I have newly approved H1-B but i have not joined the employer. I am planning to leave country to avail other job offers but would like to visit family in USA on visitor visa. Questions:
1) If I do visit on a visitor visa what happens to my H1-B visa ? Can I hold two visas at the same time ?
Will i have to apply again for H1-B if I plan to come back . The employer promises to leave the H1-B intact while the time I am away.

Do you have a valid I-797 to go with your H-1B visa?
