H1-B extension? When can the company file?

Hi,
I have an H1-B visa stamped till June 2006. I switched employers and have a new I-797 approval notice for the current employer till Sep 2006.

When can my current employer file for an extension of their original petition?

Do they have to wait 6 months (Spe 2006- 6 months = Apr 2006) or can they file now?

You can file ext after 6 months prior to start date.
 
It should be start date because extension is filed to start new employment period. For extension, it's just 1 day different for start and end date.
