Hello,

Difference between extension and revalidation. You have to apply for H-1B extension at the INS office, if your approved H-1B is about to expire. If you have approved H-1B and VISA on your passport is about to expire then you have to apply for revalidation at St.louis. (This is just revalidating your VISA, so that if you travel outside US, you can come to US using your valid VISA)

You must submit the application for an extension of stay BEFORE your current authorized stay expires. You must also keep your passport valid for your entire stay in the United States. Your employer should carefully read and file an INS Form I-129 (Petition for Nonimmigrant Worker) with supporting documentation to extend your H-1B status.

File for the extension of stay at least 45 days before your stay expires.

Hi Jonty,

Is revalidation is still being done in US? As per my knowledge, its been more than 2 years they have stopped doing the revalidation in USA.

You have to apply for H-1B extension at the INS office,
-------------INS is no more it is USCIS and one need to file extension with Service center
if your approved H-1B is about to expire.
----------Extension CAN be filed 6months advance of I-94 expiry date or extension MUST reach USCIS BEFORE I-94 gets expired
If you have approved H-1B and VISA on your passport is about to expire then you have to apply for revalidation at St.louis.
---- dont give the wring info. Visa stamp Revalidation in US has been Stoped long back
