H1 and Tax Debt

My soon-to-be employer filed an H1b application for me on 1 April. They have since communicated to me that there is "a problem" with my visa but I've been unable to get anything concrete out of them. They're very hard to contact on the phone and don't answer emails. It's frustrating and I'm beginning to think that they're no longer interested in my services.

While I try to get them to answer my questions, I'm hoping that members here will be able to tell me how my tax debts may have affected my application. I had debts of about USD 1000 with the IRS. These I have recently paid in full.

What usually happens to visa applications from people who have American tax debts? Are they routinely denied? Am I going to be given a chance to show that I've paid and then I get my visa? Or something else?

Thanks for your time,
