1099 income and H1
I know a lot of people in H1 and F1 who work in network marketing companies like Amway/Quickstar, Usana, Mary Kay etc.. and they are able to make some extra income. They are not getting rich but atleast they are making some extra money and the business plan looks like it has potential to make a lot of money. Ok I know at this point a lot of people will go hey.. thats scam don't do it.. You can look at the Quickstar and H1 thread and read those responses. Thats only personal opinion. What I am looking for is legal information. I am tempted to do it. I know the risk. I know I might end up spending more than I profit.. But that aside.. I just have one question or concern.. Is it legal? Has anyone ever heard of any H1/F1 people going to jail or being deported because of working in these kinds of businesses? I have talked to the people who do these businesses and their argument is "this is a 1099 income", otherwise known as "additional income". Its like this income is similar to income u earn from your bank interest. That is their argument in justifying that this is legal. To me it still sounds fishy and if you ask them the next answer is "we a;; are doing it and we are not going to jail" so ya its legal. Is this true? I was thinking of other business ideas like ebay.. where I buy and sell different things or real estate where I buy and sell houses as a real estate investor rather than a real estate agent. My question is.. can I do these types of businesses under 1099 or can I show this income anyway that can be considered legal, while I am on H1?
