H1 and H4 question???

Hi All,
I am on a H1B visa. My visa is getting expired on Oct 1st 2003. I have I-797 approval notice valid till Nov 2005. I am planning to get married in Dec 2003. My fiance is from Kolkata and I am from Chennai. She has a passport with Kolkata address on it.

When I go to India for my marriage in Dec 2003, I am planning to get my visa stamped from US Consulate, Chennai.

Option 1:-

* Can I apply for my fiance's H4 visa also from US Consulate - Chennai, even though she has a Kolkata address in the passport (or) should I change her Kolkatta address to my Chennai address in her passport?
* Should I also change her last name in the passport as well?
* I would like to know, if I need to get my H1 visa stamped, before she can apply for H4 visa?


Option 2:-

* Can I get my visa stamped from US Consulate - Chennai and my fiance get her visa stamped from US Consulate - Kolkata.

Please suggest me which is the best option. Appreciate your response in this regard.

----------------- Above will be much better as Chennai is creating many problems, let her change Passport with married name or spouse name endorsed on passport

Thanks a lot for your reply. My current H1 is getting expired on Oct 1st 2003, can you please let me know, if I need to get my H1 visa stamped on my passport, even before my fiance can apply for her H4 visa? (or) Can we both apply simultaneously for H1 and H4 in Chennai and Kolkata respectively?

Also please let me know about US Consulate - Kolkata. I haven't seen any discussions about US Consulate - Kolkata in this forum.

-------- You need H1B visa to be stamped before you return to US, if you are coming before October 1st 2003 then no need you can revalidate in US
even before my fiancé can apply for her H4 visa?
--- YES, fiancé cant apply for H4 it has to be wife or husband of H1b holder
(or) Can we both apply simultaneously for H1 and H4 in Chennai and Kolkata respectively?

----- H1B holders are mostly from south India, they submitted fraudulent educational documents in past to get H1B, that is the reason now Chennai has fraud detection unit and more discussion about Chennai, Calcutta Consulate has no such issues and you don’t find discussion about Calcutta. You can start the new discussion about Calcutta and may find some answers
 
Is it necessary to have a valid H1 visa stamp in my passport to apply for my wife's H4 visa or just my H1 approval notice I-797 would suffice for getting her H4 visa stamp.

Technically you donot need H1 Visa, all u need is an approved I797 but to go to india and comeback u need a visa, some times chennai guys do ask for it, chennai has its own rules
