I am on a H1B 7th year extension, in the LC stage of my GC and my company may close down. I am doing my MBA and can go full time onto a student visa to complete it.

I have heard different views, whether it is possible to transfer from the H1 7th year extension to F1. One says that transfer is very easy, the other says that the transfer is not possible because the company applied for a GC.

Could someone please help clarify,

Immigration petition for EB is after I140. In theory, LC is not immigration petition... but what is not clear is whether filing LC shows immigration INTENT or not in strict sense,and i can not say something for sure.
In DS-156, there is question asking if somebody filed immigration petition on your behalf, and people in LC stage should answer NO and it should give them F1, though if they are in I140 or later, they should answer YES and their F1 will be denied. This is at US consulate which is under DOS, and CIS(DHS) may have different idea.
I recommend to talk to laywer.
