H1 6yrs - best way to reset counter ?

Folks, if H1 hits the 6yr limit, and there is no other way to start GC other than to reset the H1 counter, whats the best way ?
Is the only option to leave the country for 1yr ? Or, if one changes status to F1/B2 etc and stay that way for 1year, will that reset the H1 counter ?
Please help.... Thanks.

Harsh though it may sound, the only way to reset it is by living outside the US for 1 year.
