H-4 Visa Stamping in Mumbai

I am getting married and currently hold an H-1B Visa.My wife needs to get her H4 stamped in Mumbai.If she does not have a name change to be done in the passport ,still does she require a new passport??

Does she need a new passport or can she get her H-4 stamped on the old one?

Also I hear that tatkal schemes have also been stopped of late.pls confirm.

Also if anybody has any idea as to how many days at the earliest it will take

1) in case she needs a new passport :

To get the new passport and get the H-4 stamped??

2) in case she has old passport :

To get the endorsement of spouse's name and H-4 stamped??

Pls note that the rules have changed in the last 3-4 months only for Mumbai Consulate

No new passport required.

H4 can be stamped with passport in maiden name.

I dont know about the visa application process at the present time..but I am pretty sure that if your wife has not changed her name...there is no adverse effect at all..my wife still uses her maiden name...right down to her green card. license, passport , h4.

Less than a week to get spouse name

I've heard that it takes less than a week to add spouse name on the passport and if you have contacts, then just a day in the local passport office (A'bad). There is no need to change her passport, just add the spouse name.

Go to Worli passport office in Bombay and you will find many agents before the passport office, in one day your wife passport can be updated with your name as spouse. Take 2 passport photographs, affidavit that she got married to you and marriage certificate, she has to fill up a form, you can collect that form from any travel agent near to your home in Bombay who deal with passport services. Make a trip to worli passport office one-day advance so that you can talk to agent and now they have also ther new office for certain services before Worli . If you are in Thane side now Thane has also passport office. Tatkaal Service is still effective

1) Miscellaneous services: (submission and delivery)
2) Addition/Deletion of spouse/children name
Go to FORMS on above site and she has to fill up MISCELLANEOUS APPLICATION FORM (to add your name as spouse)
IF Apply for Change of Name.
If you change your name, you must get your name changed in passport booklet. A woman after marriage / remarriage can also get her surname changed in her passport booklet. Please obtain a Fresh Application Form
Please fill in the form neatly and correctly in block letters with expanded initials as mentioned in your passport. Kindly attach the following documents with the application form
1. In case of marriage
o Certified Marriage Certificate from Registrar of Marriages or an affidavit from the husband and wife along with the joined photograph.
o 2 photocopies of the husband’s passport (if any).
