hi !
yesterday we got the approval notice for COS for my wife from H-4 to F-1. It took 2 months and the service center was CSC.

The question is we just got the approval notice. Aren't we supposed to get the student copy of I-20 also which we send with the COS application ?
Does that comes in separate mail usually ?

any comments about this would be quite helpful.

thanks.

Hello vtg,

I have exactly same problem.

My wife's H4 to F1 visa was approved within 2 months on Aug 19 from Vermont Service Center and also received INS approval notice on Aug 24. But we did not received original I-20 (where they should endorse something about F-1 visa), which is required document to get social security number. This is really bullshit!!

Anyway plz let me know if you have solved this issue or i will try to talk to immigration officer about this. Thank you.

Actually today we got the I-20 (student copy with INS endorsement) in a separate mail.

kewl,
you must also be getting it pretty soon it seems..
good luck...

Re SSN my wife went with the I-20 and still could not get it..they now require a letter from the university that she is a full time student and have accepted the assistantship..just FYI

Hi Guys,

Thanks for sharing info. I'll soon be in the same situation: H4 -> F1. One question is, if after I submit the application and before F1 is approved, my spouse has filed I485, will my F1 be rejected?

Well X Admin

Thats a tricky one, I don't know the exact answer to your question, but i am just sharing my thought. When you apply for I-485 aren't you applying for a change of status of your wife. If thats the case then you don't need an F-1 for your wife, then you can apply for EAD directly. But if you still want to apply for F-1 then just confirm with some one, I would wait for getting my F-1 approved and then aply for I-485. Coz then you don't wanna confuse INS and let them raise any kind of objection.

xdrive,

If I were you, I will surely get the EAD and get into studies without the necessity of F1 visa.

Its so simple to be on EAD and study since you can work for more than 20hr on-campus or accept multiple assistanships too.

IMHO...............

I am doing an H1 - F1 COS. I have heard that INS is asking such cases for a proof that they would go back to their home country after studies. Were you required to submit a similar proof? And if yes then what type of proof was able to satisfy INS.

(I guess H4 to F1 is different as they know that the wife would not go back if the husband stays in the country, but still no harm in inquiring)
