Has anyone attended for H-1B visa stamping at Nuevo Laredo (Mexico) or Motamoros (Mexico). Are there any difficulties in attending there? Will I get my passport the same day? Please advice. Thanks in advance.

I have been to Matamoros twice, once for my H1b and one time for an extension. The first time I went with a spanish speaking lawyer, the second time I took a non spansigh speaking lawyer. As of last year I think they don't let lawyers into the embassy any more. It can be pretty intimidating but its gone ok both times in Matamoros. Just make sure ALL the paperwork is spick and span and there make sure you confirm a date and time. you cant just turn up there any more. Appointments take a few weeks to book. You also need to get you temporary visa for Mexico sorted out.

H1B stamping in Tijuana, MEXICO

Hi,

I have taken an appointment for renewing my H1B visa on Oct 15th 2009 @ Tijuana, Mexico. My current visa is expiring tomorrow (i.e. sep 30th 2009). I have changed my employer in January 2009 so I have a valid I797 and I94 till Jan 2012.
Is this advisable for taking this step. I have all the documents ready. I also have the client letter, paystubs, W2's from previous years etc etc. All I need to know is as I cross this country I have to give my new and old I94. So I have no legal status to enter to US. So is this advisable. I am very much tensed please support.

Thanks

You don't need to visit a consulate to maintain your H1B status. When the visa stamp in your passport expires, that doesn't mean your status expires. You have valid status until January 2012, and can continue to remain in the US until that time without passport stamping, as long as you maintain the specified employment. You only need to visit a consulate for stamping if you want to travel outside the US and reenter. And if/when you do visit a consulate for that purpose, it is better to do that in your country of citizenship.
