H-1B three-year extension

I started my H-1B on March 1, 2000. I moved to another company on January 15, 2001 through a H-1B transfer. On my current H-1B document, my H-1B will expire January 15, 2004. My questions regarding H-1B three-year extension are as follows:

1.) Which date is the three-year expiration date, March 1, 2003 or January 15, 2004?

2.) In my situation, when should I file an extention for H-1B?

INS does not count....

But you can get a 3 yr extension from Jan 2001 (i.e. till 2004). But it is upto you to maintain the 6 yr limit- from March 2000.
