so what does this mean for folks who have filed 485 , waiting for receipt/EAD and got laid off

so what does this mean for folks who have filed 485 , waiting for receipt/EAD and got laid off

would they have to go out off the country?
can they stay in US until they get their EAD before they look for work again?

please help. Thanks
