H-1B and laid off

Hi,
My case is, I am completing my MS part-time and joined work. My F-1 visa associated EAD expired, I was on my company sponsored H-1B, and now am laid off. My last pay-check is coming in a couple of weeks. I want to know my options. I am aware of the following two, on the first one of which I am already acting:
1> Get another job, where the employer will be willing to file for an H-1B transfer.
2> Change my status back to F-1, based on my incomplete MS.

On the 2nd option, I have my school's International Student Officer's nod, but I want to explore other means of legal extension of stay in the USA. Any suggestions please?
Thanks,
P

The most legal and probably only decent avenues are already listed by you. Changing to any other non immigrant visa is useless. Of course an immigrant visa (as spouse of GCholder or citizen) is a back door some people use. Just wanted to add to the legal list.
