H-1B 6-year time period calculation

Hello, I have a client who H-1B status is about to expire (6 years) but we don't know exactly when. When she came to the United States it was on a H-1B visa. Then she switched to a F1 visa. Then she switched back to a H-1B visa. Does the 6 year time period include the time where she was not working and waiting for her F1 visa to be approved? In other words, did her H-1B status end when she filed for the F1 or when she was approved for the F1.

Thanks, Hillary

Approval of the F-1 doesn't matter. What matters when the AOS was approved or when she re-entered the US in F-1 status. That time indeed does not count towards the 6 years.
