I am on a H-1B right now and would like to join school in Jan 2002. Are there any issues in transferring from H-1 to F-1. Can I do it in the US or do I have to go out of the country ?
I too want to join school in Jan 2002. I have a well paying steady job now, but I also have been offered TA and waiver from a university for Masters in Computer Science. The questions are:
1) if I go out of the country and I do not get an F-1 can I come back on the H-1 of my company??Or do they cancel H-1 too if they dont give F-1 thereby permanently locking me out?
2) I would prefer to go to a country nearby rather than go all the way to India. Is any country better to go to ? For example should I rather go to Mexico or Canada? I have heard authorities in Mexico are easier. What about India? Is it better to go to US authorities in India than either Mexico or canada?
3) Is there any advantage in starting greencard process now even though I know that I will not finish the process with the same company?
Please answer as many questions as you all can will be great help.
I am also on H1, and want to convert it into F1, and I have the same questions as you do have, if you get any answers from anyone please do me a favour to email me at rogwall@hotmail.com
Can I know which university has offered you the TA and waiver before joining the university ?
Did you get your visa converted to F-1? Where did you get it and what documents did you show? Especially, what did you you show to prove that you plan to return home after completion of studies. Please respond if you see this message. Thanks.
