h-1 & i485

all:

my i485 has been filed. my 6 yr period for h1 expires in may 1st week.
can i extend my h1, as i am not likely to get EAD before that time.
last h1 issued to me is acutally shows a valid date of October 2002.
do i still need to renew my h-1?

H1 extension based on AC21

You can get your interim EAD after 90 days of your receipt date and use it for work.
You can apply for H1 extension based on AC21.
