I have been in the US on an F-1. Last year my F-1 expired and I was an an optional practical training. As per immigration law I can stay in the US on an optional practical training (OPT) for a period of one year even after the F-1 visa has expired. I will be finishing my OPT next month and then will be landing in Canada as a PR. The question I have is will I be able to travel back to the US to bring back my goods that will be following since I can\'t take all my goods when I am landing. The reason this is pertinent is because as I mentioned earlier my visa (and I-94) had expired last year. I am a commonwealth country (India) passport holder. Does anyone of you see any problems for me to enter US again within a few days after I land in Canada?

I do not see why you should have a problem returning to the states on a normal visit using your Canadian PR, however you should not be giving the Americans wild reasons about your visit to the states specially about returning to pick up your stuff...not a good idea if you ask me, tell \'em you are visiting your friends, perhaps someone else on this forum can share the reasons they give at the borders for crossing into the states.

i was thinking of telling the ins officers about going back to the US because i have left over stuff that i need to bring and that the reason i didn\'t bring is because i didn\'t know where i was going to live in Canada(Montreal) and so didn\'t want to roam around with that stuff. Would this be a good reason to give....it is also a genuine reason. How do you guys take you goods to follow into canada. Do you guys ship it or do you guys visit the US to take it back into Canada

I agree with anil. the more complicated your reason the more paranoid they become. I don\'t see anything wrong in you telling them you are visiting friends. I would quess that is the commonest reason they get from canadians and PR,s crossing the border.

But wouldn\'t the INS officer think that it is a bit weird that I am going to visit my friends since i just came from there? What do you guys think?
