I'm an unmarried Indian citizen and came to the US on H-1B visa. My father petitioned for me in F1 category. My priority date is September 1, 1999. I applied for AOS and received my EAD and AP. I met a girl here who is doing job on H1B(Indian national). We will like to tie the knot in near future. Will it have any bearing on my pending AOS application(I haven't received the actual Green-card yet). What are the implications if I get married now?
Any suggestions/ideas are welcome.
Thanks.

Why would you marrying an H1B have any effect on your pending AOS ? , she can stay on her h1B untill you become a citizen as sponsoring her on your GC will take atleast 4-5 years to be approved since you from India. and her H1B will have no effect on your status as she is not sponsoring you.

Im kinda confused with the question , but the answer above is what I thought you wanted info about, sorry in I am not clear, please rephrase it if I missed your question.

He is asking because his father has applied for him in F1 category. If he get married he will in different category and so that will change his priority.
Radhakrishn, I think you shoould wait till you get your GC and then get married.

I think it does not matter the status of the spouse is about the civil status of the beneficiary (in this case about you = unmarried children), so better wait.

Good luck,

You have to be unmarried until your petition is adjudicated if you want to be in F1. If you get married before that, u'll slide into F3. Either way u'll keep ur PD.

Check the processing dates for those categories and decide your options.

I think you mean..." "unmarried" until your petition is adjudicated ", right?

thanks for the input

Thanks all for above. I applied for AOS in April,2006. Any ideas about the approximate wait period for actual green card. My case ie pretty straight forward. How will the INS know if somebody got married during the AOS processing?
Thanks again for your time.
