GURUS Clarification Needed --> Security Clearance Definition

Hi,

I have been asking a particular question in the separate thread and thought would seek a clarification separately.

When I called TSC today, lady there told me that my 'Security Clearance' is pending and that is my current status. Neither could I ask more nor did she let me as she hung up right away.

Initially I thought that she meant Name Check pending but now couple of things have come up. Someone in the other thread mentioned it could be due to FP pending result too. Since I recently (on May 5, 2007) had my FP2 so I am now confused.

So my question is, what is 'Security Clearance'? Could the lady have meant my FP2 results pending. I was confused with Name Check pending as I had a confimation from FBI almost 3 years stating that it had been completed. So I thought in morning may be it got resubmitted.

What could be the status? What should I have been asking TSC or should I ask if I call again? What is the official definition/terms for these stuff? Any insight/feedback would be appreciated.

I am guessing she referred to FBI Namecheck...

Security Clearance / FBI Namecheck all mean pretty much the same thing....

When it comes to security checks, there are 3 checks, I believe, IBIS Check, Finger Print Check and then the dreaded FBI Namecheck....

the first 2 checks finish up in 1-2 weeks...always...the third FBI Namecheck....god only knows when that will clear...

If you have proof (like FBI email) that your namecheck cleared, I would say convey that to Congressman/Senator and followup with them to communicate that to USCIS....In the past, USCIS has been guilty of submitted more than one namecheck but legally, one namecheck is what is needed....and USCIS should not be submitting namechecks more than once..
 
Call FBI at 304 625 2000. Tell them you are calling about checking the status of your "fingerprinting" for immigration purposes. The person may transfer you to another dept. Give them your name, d-o-b and A#. Once he/she tells you when the fingerprinting results were sent back to USCIS, ask him/her if anything else is pending.

When I called (about an hr ago) and asked if anything else is pending, the lady said "yes". I asked what and she said "name check" but that dept doesnt talk to the public so she cannot help me anymore :(

thanks banta...

want to hear something funny...i called again today to confirm which part is pending...and got some other lady at tsc...now she told me everything is cleared and file is just waiting for some officer to review...

now i do not know who to beleive...and why does uscis give different info different times...

If that's the case....may be your namecheck is more likely to be cleared....

In my personal experience, when my namecheck was pending for 1 year...I called so many times....but they always said namecheck pending....

But, once my namecheck cleared in Jan, I called 7-8 times...one time she said namecheck still pending...3 times they said....they cannot disclose/call the National customer service etc...4 times she said that namecheck cleared...and awaiting for review....

Sometimes, reps out of lazyness, will just try to end the call and just say - it's still pending...So, you got to just be careful as to how you interpret what they say!
