Gurus, A# on I-140 and I-485 are different?

I just found out that the A# on my I-485 receipt is different from my normal A# on EAD or I-140 or I-131. I checked the I-485 application, and it was entered correctly with my normal A#. Can a person have two different A#? What kind of impact will be?

Thanks for your input.

This is a problem I believe

haoyun04,

I would consult an attorney but having duplicate A#s have caused people a lot of grief. I would try to get this issue resolved through your lawyer or AILA inquiries.

saras

So did I...

After my 485 was approved, I went through my old immigration docs and I realized that I had 2 different A#s (I never saw my 485 paper receipt coz it was never successfully delivered to me - so I did not know what was my A# on 485).

My final A# on GC card is the one on APs and EADs. I assumed the one on 485 receipt should be the ones used on APs and EADs - which was different with I-140 A#.

Like Saras said, you may want to check that with your lawyer so he/she can straighten up with TSC. I am not sure if it will cause problem or not with multiple A#s ~ It did not create problem in my case, but I don't know.

Good Luck :)

Hi I am wondering it's the A# important? I don't have A# for my I-140 application, just a case number starting "LIN". Will I need the A# for any future use?
Thanks!

Multiple/duplicate A# on I-485

haoyun04,
Do you know if you’re duplicate A# issue is fixed?

I am in similar situation and it's causing a big headache.

USCIS had issued a name check based on old A# in Nov-2004 and on July-1 I got an email from FBI that my name check was cleared and result was sent to USCIS.
Meanwhile in May-2005, USCIS realized that they had issued the same A# to more then one person and hence issued a new A# to my I-485 case.
Now the problem is, Name check was done using old A# and it is not showing up in USCIS system since my I-485 has been associated with new A#.
I am struggling to get this corrected calling TSC, Attorney and Congressman. So far no luck...
After several calls, they issued new finger printing notice using new A# that I completed in June but they forgot to make a Name check request again to FBI.
So, according to USCIS my case is pending Name check and according to FBI it was cleared on July-1 using old A# and they do not see any name check using new A#.

I am stuck, going back and forth with these guys.

Now, I have made an appointment with local USCIS office to discuss this issue.
Hopefully they can understand on what the problem is.

Anybody who has dealt with similar situation, please help.

Even Local Office is Useless - I am in an infinite grief mode because of duplicate A#

And regular thespians of this forum know that I am defanged precisely by this issue of duplicate A#. My end is nowhere in sight.

My case is pending with the local office for 2 years now!!!! Yet, they know that this is a problem with duplicate A#, but are helpless because they are kind of finding it difficult to proceed. Therefore the perpetual wait continues. The point is that even if your case is with the local-office, they are not very helpful when it comes to duplicate A# issues. This to me seems more like an identity-fraud nightmare in the general sense. This is a nightmare both for INS adjudicators as well as for the applicants. So, even when they come to know of a duplicate A# issue for a file that they have in the local office, yet they are not able to close it and approve it.

Now, if your case is with the Service Center and you are hoping to get help from local office, I guess then you are counting on a miracle, which can always happen. You never know. Good luck.

I saw your post recently when I check back my old post.

I found out the my H1, and my i-140 and i485 applications had a different A# than ones on my I-485, EAD and AP receipt or approval.
In June, I went to local office to inquiry my name check since I got FBI response saying they did not find any request for my old A#, the lady told me that my name check is still pending and for some reason CIS sent twice. At that time, I did not even thought about the co-relationship between the two A# and two name check requests....

I inquired from the assisstant of my company lawyer. she told me the A# are the same (the new one) from what she can see. I will contact the lawyer on Monday to see what she is going to find out.

Then the question is, if a person has two A# due to the CIS error, will CIS treat this as a fraud and hold up the case and cause delay, or CIS just approve the new A#... I just do not know in long run, will it impact the citizenship application?

I will post updates when they are available. Good luck to all!
