Guest workers can Apply for GC with no sponsering Employer but not H1B holders

I seriously doubt that this will pass through the House.

The Senators can think of anything they want. The key question is what the House will agree on.

Here we go. They changed their mind and thanks to Sen. Kennedy they added back the self-petition. It is shocking that low skilled can self-petition themselves and the legal skilled H1B people can't.

Based on balanced news, it appears that this insanity would not pass. That's the problem. People pushes for unreasonable measures and we are the ones who will pay the price if the bill doesn't pass. Most of Senate members are not considering impact of what they are doing.

This one is even more insane:

Hi guys,

I really do not understand how illegal immigrants (undocumented workers) can pay social security when they do not have SSN. If at all it is there it might be a fake. I am not so sure. Then where is the money going?

http://www.washtimes.com/national/20060518-114132-2456r.htm

"We all know that millions of undocumented immigrants pay Social Security and Medicare taxes for years and sometimes decades while they work to contribute to our economy," said Sen. John McCain, Arizona Republican.

I guess that he is saying that, for the ones who work at McDonald's, etc using forged or stolen SSN#, they get deductions from their monthly paychecks which are applied towards social security contributions. There are lots of people working under the table though, getting cash.

if the SSN of existing person is stolen then the actual person holding the same SSN will be in trouble. am I right? If the SSN does not exist in the social security administration then how they can collect social security from so called the undocumented workers. I feel some kind of contradiction going on.

Absolutely. This week CNN-Lou Dobbs debated that. Basically American kids are being victim of identity theft left and right. Obviously only several years later kids would find out someone is using their SSN, when the it is time to apply for a student loan. There is a case of a woman who had her SSN used by more than 140 different people. Lou Dobbs pointed out that IRS and the Social Security Administration turn the blind eye on this as well, and do not inform the holder of the SSN# even if they find unusual activity on the account.

In my church I was told that a fellow got his social security from a dead person. He is very happy going around and financed a brand new Cherokee with that.

To my understanding, they are saying that perhaps if the illegal alien can show on pay stubs that the individual paid SSN taxes, even if the number was forged, one could claim credit towards that contribution, but now in the future using a legitimate SSN. The bottom line is this, by doing that, the Senate is sending a strong and consistent message to the world:break the law and come here, if you don't break the law you are a stupid.

Senators and sanity

It looks like senators and sanity don't seem to co-exist. The new found compassion for illegals has just crossed all limits as the vote greedy population in the senate is trying to think of all the impossible provisions.

It is astonishing to see how many hollow brains run the show in this country. For someone to even think that vast majority of these illegals would have first arrived on a valid work visa, applied and gotten a valid SSN and becoming illegal by overstaying and come up with a stupid amendment,is too much.

The one dollar question is, How to they manage to be a super power with these think tank law makers?

What about the Social Security that we pay?

Amazing!

How come they forget that there are legal immigranst also who pay much more in Social security then illegal immigrants! And we wait for years to get our greencards.. They have completely forgotten we exist!

They are not hollow brained.. Superpower needs people... Peoples ... to do all sorts of things. The Army is not getting enough new guys ... How many legal immigrants guys are willing to lay down there life for the new country....?

And more over what do you think -- they can do with 11-15 million people already deeply meshed into the workforce. Many of the big business like Tyson food and Walmart may have to shut down .. for lack of man power.

The only thing I agree with Bush Administration is there current approach towards immigration... Make the borders secure ... offer a path to illegal to become legal and create a guest worker program for the needs of US and its people. After all most of the immigrants come down to help American People.
Nurses/Doctors are coming from the third world countries to help ageing baby boomer lead a 'Helped Life' ... there are leaving there own countrymen to die who might have otherwise lived, if medical staff were availiable. US is getting the resources ......

I don't know why green card is considered a life line by many. We can't do it the illegals way. They have crossed desserts by risking everything to come here and have no intentions of going back. They are prepared to live away from their families even for the rest of their lives as they can never go back.

Also remember that if you go the illegal way, you have to be prepared to do the jobs that they do to survive as you can't be illegal and have a white collar job at the same time.

Think for a moment if we can do that. If we can, then there is no value for all the education we had.

Sorry guys, if I hurt anyody's feelings here as my intentions are not that. I just felt that we all spend too much time thinking and portraying a stupid card as "larger than life thing" and loose all the joyous moments in life for so many prime years.
Yes Card is not life. US is a place of opportunities. It provides exposure in latest technologies with most challenging situations. Challenges always carry some risk. One needs to balance risk with challenges real life. Having a green card provides reduce this risk and help to take challenges. We are literate people and respect the law. We do not want to land to become illegal by take these challenges. Work visa holders carry risk to become illegal based on employment termination. We also respect this country which cares for immigrant (I know countries which pay no attention to people on work visa) and hope these senator need to understand this.

Did you see yesterday Sen: Kennedy told about H1B & Guest work pgm?

He is the one man behind this new paradise for Guest workers who can apply GC by themselves and the new wave of new Guest workers can also stay and apply. So imagine yearly 200,000 entering and applying later for GC. The USCIS is going to be flooded. What a pitty, he thinks we are no better to them.We can't even change the employer. One thing is sure these politicians does not give any shit to our cause. They want basically hispanic vote. If they make them as early as possible Citizens.. still better for them.... What a country..... sad to see our cause and now wonder Why did I ever come to this country.......

I have hope

I have hope and fingers crossed.

Hopefully they will increase the visa numbers for us AND the illegal folks will be in line after us..That way we wont get screwed. Right ?

I disagree. I don't really think this is a matter of Tyson food or Walmart shutting down due to lack of workforce. There are two components we are discussing 1) legalization of people who came here illegally and 2) a guest-worker (or increase in immigrant numbers) to allow legal people to come here and do the work for Tyson and Walmart.

Issues 1 and 2 are exclusive. It is obvious that this senate at least heard their own voters, they could simply agree to put and end to the idea of granting amnesty. The bill could pass, and we could benefit as well.

If you attempt to make borders secure and at the same time you continue to reward people to come here, you send the message to the whold world that they should triple their efforts to sneak in. All your attempts to secure borders would be diminished and potentially invalidated by the massive influx of people, supported by a weak policy. Honestly that is so obvious and already proven, that for me it sounds like a rethoric when I hear people arguing about this.

Honestly, if it comes to the point where they pass such insanity, I would be ready to leave in few years. I would not care anymore. If I have to leave in a place that is now so unfair and lawless, at the first sign of further decline in my standard of living I'd prefer to go back to my own country and at least spend my time closer to my family.

It's going to be interesting when the House-Senate conference begins... I just don't see any way the House will approve this bill given all the crazy amendments made that favor so heavily towards the illegal/undocumented people.

Only in USA do you see this sort of insanity going on.

I'm afraid of the situation when the House will reject the entire bill because (let's be honest) it is a pure example of a classical amnesty. :-( So this way there will be no Senate-House conference committee.
