Hi all,

I still have my green card that was issued in 1979 or 1980 when I was 3yrs old. My father was doing his post-doc in Baltimore at the time. We moved to Canada a few years later and I've lived in the Canada ever since. Anyhow, I didn't see any expiration date on my green card, is my card still valid? From this site my GC falls in the category that do not need to be renewed. If I went to the social security office and applied for a SSN, would I have any problems? Will they invalidate my GC?

Thanks.

The card may not have an expiry date but you have most likely lost your PR status. Your only glimmer of hope is that you left the US as a minor. In other words, you did not make the decision to abondon the US, your folks did. However you are 30 now, 12 years have passed since you turned an adult. Had you acted as soon as you turned 18, you might have a claim. Nevertheless, talk to an immigration attorney.
