green card years?

Question if one is approved for the political asylum green card how many years that GC is good for? And then after it's expired, what's next?

Ten years and you can renew it as many times as you want. Also you can apply for citizenship after 5 years with GC.

There is not such thing as political asylum GC. You need to apply for asylum first and 1 year after you get it, you can apply for GC.

After 1 year then apply for GC? Does the applicant need to still have the case valid in order to get the GC?

I think the question is whether the asylum applicant still has to have the same well founded fear of persecution, based on which he/she is granted asylum, one year after asylum is granted in order to apply for permanent residence. In other words, if his/her country becomes safe for the asylee to return to, can the asylee still apply?

That's exactly what I meant.

Yes. Theoretically, if the case was to be re-opened, and USCIS concludes that country condition have changed for example, the asylum can be terminated, thus terminating possibility for GC. I haven't heard of this happening, but theoretically it is possible of course. Also, if any kind of fraud is suspected and/or determined (i.e. lying about credible fear, being a member of armed forced, etc.), asylum will be terminated.

But who got all that time to re-open the case. USCIS sure has lot other important issues rather than this. Be realistic.
Atique.

Yes, I somehow agree with Atique. No officers will want to waste their time and resources re-evaluating cases that have been granted, unless a red alarm is flagged. Some examples of red alarm are your close relatives and friends provide evidence to USCIS that your case is fraud, or you commit a crime, or your lawyer is accused/indicted for making up his clients' statements and etc. My point is that it has to be something from outside force that will trigger USCIS to reopen your case.

Frankly, I don't believe that country conditions will improve significantly in just 1 year of your grant date. Persecution that has been going on for a long time will never or take a long time to get rid of. Tell me which country has improved its condition significantly in just 1 or 2 years? Even the US Dept of State reports on countries conditions (which the AO use) are issued annually and their reports rarely vary significantly from year to year. Besides, any lawyer or people can argue to the contrary with just a few instances of persecutory incidents.
