Hello All,

Im married to a US citizen and we are currently living in Australia and have done for
the last 7 years. Before this we lived in the USA for 8 years and I was a green Card Holder
until I was made to surrender it when we travelled back on Holidays a few years back.

We now would like to return and live in the USA and what i would like to know is the following

Do i have to go through the normal process again like I did when applied for my first green Card ?
Is the waiting time for the process 3-4 months or a lot longer now ?
Is my chances less or more depending on my History with having a green card previous.
Once i recieve my paper work to go to America how long do you have to travel and submit paper work
in the USA ?

Thanks for any help , much appreciated

You have to go through the whole process again like what you did the first time. These days it takes about 6-12 months. Half of that if the consulate in Australia will let you do Direct Consular Filing (DCF).

Probably the only real difference the second time would be if you already worked long enough in the US to accumulate 40 credits for Social Security, which would qualify you to get the Affidavit of Support waived by filing I-864W.
