green card photo

Just got the 'Welcome to the Unted States of America" letter stating that I have been approved for the green card just 3 weeks after the interview.
I presumed that at the interview they would take a photo of me for it but they did not therefore I am presuming that they will again use the photo taken at the biometrics/fingerprint appointment I had in January.

Unfortunately at the biometrics appointment there was no indication beforehand that there would be any photos needed to be done so I went straight from bed looking extremely busted and I received my work permit with a photo similar to a dying animal in the wild.
I urgently need to know whether its possible to have the photo redone, either the green card, work permit or both.

Sorry to say this.. but so close to getting a GC, it is highly unlikely you can look pretty on the GC. The good thing is once you get the GC, you don't need the Work permit, so that's only one photo of you looking like that (BTW, your description was funny) you need to worry about ;)

For your satisfaction, try calling the National Customer Service line (which you'll find on the bottom of almost all Receipt notices) and ask them if there's a chance..

Usually, the receipt notice for I-485 will indicate that while doing FPs the photos would be taken. You probably missed reading that.

I'm in the same situation!!! I just received I-485 approval letter yesterday. I went to FP with my hair undone & no makeup & wore a super wrinkle tee, just like a highschool kid without my face washed. I actually submitted 4 passport pics (which I took in Kinko's for $20! God!) and thought they would need them but ended up...

And I have a question regarding social security card. I was F-1 & have a social security card with the words "Valid with work only with INS authorization" on it. Just wondering if they'd mail me a new social security card automatically or I have to request it?

HaHaHaHa....
Make sure you don't show that picture to my friend Publicus, he may want to meet you :D :D :D

On a more serious note, don't worry, you'll have not to many occasions to show that GC to anybody...mine was lost in a drawer for over 7 years, and when I took it for the "last trip" to the Oath Ceremony almost had spider nets on it ;)
Besides, the fact that you have it is the most important thing.

And if your new girlfriend/boyfriend asks you for ID, show the Driving License
;)

You have to go to Social Security and and ask for a new SS Card.

Hi Suzy,

What do I need to bring?
I wanna get it ASAP 'coz everytime I showed my social security card, no matter at DMV or bank or wherever, people just gave me a curious face and read those words "Valid with work only with INS authorization" really carefully and slowly...

Your Green Card, your old SS Card. (I don't know if you have to bring an ID or the Green Card is enough)

You'll have to fill-out another Application for a SS Card:

http://www.socialsecurity.gov/online/ss-5.html

Good Luck. :)

So we don't need to bring any pictures to the biometrics appt? What exactly should I bring with me?
Thanks!

For the FP/biometrics, you need to carry
your ID (passport or DL),
receipt notices for I-485 and I-765
a happy face :)

hahahahah... my tummy hurts from laughing so much.

anyway.. ahem. To answer your question... Yes it is possible to change your picture but it is going to cost you some $$$/ and a considerable amount of time. Here are the options.

1. http://uscis.gov/graphics/formsfee/forms/i-90.htm
You can file I-90 for a replacement card claiming your dog ate your card and that severly disfigured your picture. You will have to pay the $260 fees and go for your biometrics again where you will be given the chance to look good in your picture. I-90 has long timeline and some applications take over a year to get processed. Look in the Life After Green Card forum for other I-90 filers experiences.

2. You can send a check (~$500), your old GC, the pic you want printed on the card and a crate of beer to Suzy (shhh... the word is she knows a lot of these shady spots along I-5 and she's your best bet) and she can have your card ready for you in 2 weeks. She can also have your card printed in pink or blue and install LED flashers on it :D :D :D, but whatever you do, dont let the immigration officer swipe your card in his reader...

Decide wisely... :D :D

How much Publicus did pay you for this :D :D

This is not fair, especially since I'm playing the role of "Mrs. Doubtfire" here ;)
You, Mr. Ari, just reached my black list next to Publicus, watch out :D

Speaking about the "good places" I warmly recommend you Alvarado St. in Los Angeles, where you can get a shinny brand new card for "cincuenta dolares", and you have the option to get it already in spanish...in case you want to know what says on it :D :D

About the beer, why not, send it over
;)

On a second thought I believe this is your favorite line when you try to pick a guy up in a bar :D :D

Publicus: I got you covered while you are gone :D

That's good news for that defendless chicken in uniform :D

thank you for your answers

I guess for $500 I'd better get used to looking like a truck ran over my face on my GC then! Guess I'll live.

Another question. If you get the GC and no longer need to carry your work permit around with you would I also need to get a different SS card (as asked before) that doesnt state the same thing as hers/his (valid with INS authorization bla bla bla). What kind of s s cards are there.

Is a driving license and GC enough ID to carry with me? Its going to feel pretty empty pursed without carrying 600 different forms of ID with me everywhere.

When you apply for a card as a Green Card holder the new SS Card is without anything on it but the SS# and your name.

They (CIS) say to carry your GC with you, from my experience for the over 7 years as a LPR I've never carried that card in my wallet, except if I've traveled outside of the US.

Don't worry, if Publicus and his new buddy Ari can live with worse pictures than yours, you'll be OK. :D
In their cases, the pictures are accurate copies of the originals
:D :D :D

To others, apologies for diverting the seriousness here. I figured things needed to loosen up in this forum a bit once in a while and Suzy is 'the man' for this job :D

My apologies too, especially to the OP for high jacking his thread.
I agree with the rest, and I may ad, Ari is a good "substitute" for Publicus
:D :D
