hello,
for the green card medical exam: if the applicant had his HIV/Syphilis test done less than 12 months ago, and we have the records, will he still have to re-take the test?

also, are the immunizations required for filing for a green card? if so, which ones?

thanks a million in advance

All the tests and examinations must be carried out by a US Civil Surgeon as part of an immigration exam. The civil surgeon will complete the I-693 and seal it and give it to you, which contains all of the test results.

You cannot "import" pre-existing tests. Sorry. However, your immunizations can be brought up to date prior to going to the civil surgeon. If they are not, make and fist and take it like a man/woman.

Not so fast...

Canuck,

You can actually import pre-existing results if they are less than 6 months old. In the case of this individual, 12 months is a long time and these results are no longer valid. Assume this situation, her or his medical results were done in June during a routine physical, and now (Nov) he or she want to do the I-693 medical form, they can bring the results from his/her physical exam (specifically, the blood work: HIV and Syphillis) to this examination for greencard, and the civil surgeon can import them only if they are valid and less than 6 months.

I actually have a friend who just did this and his application process is moving fine, without any hiccups. Understand this, HIV/AIDS takes about 6 months to be detected in the immune system, hence within 6 months, another HIV/AIDS test will not be detected should one contract it between June and Nov (using this hypothetical situation) so hence the test are accepted within 6 months. However, for over 6 months, then a new test is supposed to be done because should somone have Hiv/AIDS, it could be detected with a new test. :o

With your immunization form, you need to have an updated vaccination record. However, should u require additional shot, then the Civil Surgeon will let you know and give you one....

Good luck....
