hi , i would just like to ask , is it possible for a green card holder to
convert the status to a tourist visa (multiple visa entry for 10 yrs)

my mom wanted to give up her green card so as not to be pressured
to always come back to US. they are only allowed to stay in the philippines
for 6 months or should return to US before 1 year...

now she just wanted to have a tourist visa (multiple entry)...

please help, is it possible? your replies would be a big help, for us to have an idea.
thank you very much :)

It is not possible to convert a green card to a B-2 visa. Your mother should offically surrender her PR status at a US consulate using form I-407. She can then apply for a visit visa.

She cannot "convert" it. She can just give up the card and apply for a B2 visa like everyone else. Once the immigration officer figures out that she is not living in the US, she can lose it anyway even if she meets the time lines. I sure hope that she properly filed her income taxes by yesterday.

You do realize that you just admitted on a public forum that she is not abiding by the terms of her GC and is not living in the US appropriately.

Thanks for the replies guys. my mother never overstayed illegally or violated any rules during her stay in the US or even here in the Philippines.
She still has a few months to arrange the visa while she's still here in the Philippines.
Another question, after filling out the form I-407 , will she be interviewed right away by the consul? Or this will be just the first step of filing the request and the interview will be scheduled? thanks again

I do not believe there is an interview needed for I-407. There will be an interview for her B-2 visa.

they are right that you cannot "convert" your status to a tourist, i think that there are ways, you can seek for an advice with different firm, Like with the one I knew they helped me out with my visa when i'm in the US. It's carpolaw, they are based in Makati City this is their contact info. :)
