Green card for mom

I am a US citizen and had applied an I 130 and I 485 simultaneously for my mom in Oct 2008 , it was sent to the California center for 'faster' processing .How long does it normally take to get some info back from them? Info pass could not help me .
Who exactly is a case worker?
I am getting frustrated as I thought we would get the GC within 6 months .
 
Here's what you can do:

Check the processing time for CSC online. If your case has not gone beyond the normal processing time posted online, keep waiting. If it does, you can make an appointment with local USCIS office (info pass) to inquire about your case.

Meanwhile you can also call the 1-800 number on your I-130 receipt and find out what's going on with your case. You can file an inquiry with the service representative and get response back in about one month. If you are lucky, he/she may even transfer you to CSC and you'll be able to talk to an officer who has better knowledge about your case.
