OK, this is my mother's situation. She USED to have a Green Card + Permanent Residency status - unfortunately, she technically abandoned it when she left the U.S. for 5 or so years. She then applied for a tourist visa, was granted it, came to the U.S. and has overstated her stay for a few years. She is now wondering how east it would be to get her Green Card back, if at all possible.
Again, her status is, she is currently in the States on a tourist (expired) visa in the U.S., but used to have a green card that just expired last year. Is there a way to reinstate/renew that Green Card, or does she definitely need to reapply for a new Green Card? And in any case, which application would she need to fill out? Is anyone able to help? Immigration websites are so confusing! Thanks in advance!!
