Green Card by a new employer

Is it possible for a company to process my green card if I am not an employee of them?

Here is the situation.
I am working in US in H1B. My present employer does not process Green Card. I have met an emplyer who is willing to sponsor my Green Card and recruit me once my green card is available(They dont employ people without green card) . Is it possible to start the green card processing with this company while I am working with my present employer under H1B visa.

You don\'t have to work for the sponsor company before you get GC. But you must work for them after you get GC for at least a few months (say 6 months)
