Hello,

Me and my ex wife were married and filed a i751 together with her ( us citizen) as the sponsor. We applied to have the conditions removed and submitted paperwork however the marriage broke down and it ended in divorce, after we submitted the paperwork to remove these conditions.

I refilled with all of my documents as proof of the final divorce decree, and received a new case number. However I also got approved and received my green card through my initial application. I have just received a letter asking for biometrics to be taken from my new application ( post marriage) the thing to note here is that it has the correct and same Alien reg number.

Has anyone had this happen?

Should I assume that this is standard?

I have an official approved green card but also an open case.

It was approved after.

But I was advised by a lawyer to resubmit a new i751 as a solo person with all the divorce paperwork attached.
Now I am being called for biometrics for my new application
 
Then it seems the first I-751 was approved in error. Although a jointly-filed I-751 could still be approved if the couple is separated or in the middle of divorce, it can no longer be approved after the divorce is final. So unless they changed that first I-751 to be based on a divorce waiver for you, the approval was in error.
 
I am not sure, but again, as advised by an immigration professional- it may just prolong naturalization status vs a problem with my actual green card/new application.
