Granted Asylum and want to apply for green card

I am from Egypt and I applied for Asylum and my case was approved on March, 2014

I was staying with SSN and Employment card

Now I am supposed to do medical and apply for Green Card but my lawyer
want to charge me $1000 for this process over and above what he
already charged me in the case

I was told that , no need to use lawyer as he do not have too much to
do and I can undergo the process myself

I am asking , do you see in this stage I am still in risk to be
denied the green card if I applied myself without my lawyer

I was complying to all immigration rules has a good record and didn't
depart the country all this year
 
You have to wait till march 2015 and apply, and I think if your attorney apply and fill the form you will avoid the mistakes and the processing time of your application will not be delayed.
 
If you are not very comfortable with the steps for Asylum/Green card, then you should hire a lawyer to avoid some costly mistakes.
