Got the Card. No more USCIS until citizenship application.

2 months after I-485 interview, my wife and I finally got the long-awaiting "Welcome to the US" email on 6/19/06. It was exactly what the interviewing officer told us: Wait for two months and you will get the card. A couple of days later, we got the actual welcome notice in the mail and on 6/26, we got the actual card!!!!

Yes! No more USCIS for now. At least not for another three years, if my wife decides to apply for the citizenship.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank many of you who have responded to my questions in the past: rex1960, temmy, foxytone, visaapplicant, LucyMO, cherr1980, and pumkin. What! the famous ari4u is not on my list??? Although ari4u did not directly answer my questions, I have benefitted from many of his posts. So thanks to ari4u as well.

Congrats

USC is a quite less painful process than GC process. I feel it be the most rewarding as now you can sponsor others for GC :p :p . My husband became a USC in April 06. He applied 90 days before he became eligible.

Good Luck !! Before you know it you will be in these forums again for USC process :) :D

I have no words to thank so many people who have actively contributed here and in other websites too. I have avoided many pitfalls by reading these postings.
 
Citizenship Eligibility

If you obtained GC because a USC sponsored you, then you become eligible to apply in 2 years and 9 months. Actually it is 3 years, but you can apply 90 days before your eligibility date.

If you obtained GC through Employment, it is 4 years and 9 months (Again it is 5 years, but 90 days before eligibility date is ok).

Yes, indeed. It is less painful for the USC process than the GC process. I applied for my own USC last year and the Portland DO was very professional and efficient (I have posted my experience in the USC forum.) My petition for my wife's GC also became less painful once the file arrived at the Portland DO.

I hope they stay professional and efficient when it is my wife's turn to apply for USC (2 years and 9 months from now.)
