Here are some green card benefits
Green card holders have the same rights as US citizens, except can't vote. You can work without sponsership. You can avail unemploymnet benefits also.
Without a green card- college tuition goes out the window- Stateuniversities charge international rates, which are 4 times the rate citizens or permanent residents pay. Scholarships are not available unless you are a citizen or PR either- with the exception of performing arts- My daughter got a full ballet scholarship to Virginia School of the Arts before we got our green cards- but my sons, were offered academic scholarships and scouted by good universitites, until we got to the bottom line of the forms- "have to be a permanent resident or US
citizen"
You can get health insurance but life insurance usually requires you to be a PR (green card holder) or citizen. To get homestead
exemption on your property taxes, I believe you have to be a PR. And so it goes on...... How important is green card status? its all-important, especially if you
have kids.
You can visit some countries whihc wouldnot require visa if you have gc like Canada, Singapore
On other side:-
You have to be in this country can not leave this country for a very long period of time.
May be some smart people are more.
